Asking this before the next update:

What did you think of Melbourne Sports Books?

Did you pick up any books there?

The shop was really, really good. I had a fun little chat with the guy who runs it. There were some books on the history of the AFL that I would liked to have picked up. (The Rugby League section could be a bit better. There was a section at the Borders in Chadstone Mall that had more Rugby League books that were useful for me.) I just had an extremely, extremely limited budget. If I had a couple hundred, I could have liked to have picked up more. The shop is best at some of the smaller press books for the more obscure topics like the 1963 AFL Grand Final. The book I got was about the proposed merge between I think Melbourne and Hawthorn? It was $23 but the guy let me pay $20 which was awesome.

While there, I saw some one who worked for the AFL in player development. That was really, really cool. :D

(There were several mergers – proposed or realised – in the 1980s and 1990s).

Hope you enjoyed and learnt a lot about the merge between Melbourne and Hawthorn.

(I think I remember that book!)

And it would have been really, really cool to see someone in player development.

(There has been a lot in recent times about footballers doing study, jobs and in general life outside the professionalised AFL).

There might be a good rugby bookshop somewhere.

Currently reading “A National Game, The History of Australian Rules Football” so haven’t had a chance to crack the other one yet. Good read but long. I want to get my hands on the two AFL sanctioned histories of the AFL too.
