Evidence of growth of a fandom: Gold Coast Suns on ebay.com.au

The Gold Coast Suns announced their team name in 2010.  They will play in the AFL this year for the first time.  It is interesting to try to watch the growth of the fan community and interest around the club.  Recently, I’ve been getting some data from ebay.com.au as I’m curious about patterns for listing items about sport around events that take place in the community.  I believe I referenced some of this data in my St Kilda nude photo scandal chapter.

I was looking through some of this data and found what appears to be an interesting pattern for the Gold Coast Suns on ebay.com.au, for the search term Gold Coast Suns.

If you ignore the fourth of January, which is still part of the holiday season in Australia, the total number of items for the teach has increased over time.   It looks like there appears to be more materials available to list, possibly people who think that more people are interested in buying Gold Coast Suns related items, etc.  It suggests that the team’s fan base is gearing up in preparation for the season and probably suggests good things for the team.

Most popular AFL teams across social media sites (February 14, 2011)

This is mostly for my own interest. Data for these sites is because I have a script to automatically fetch this information. Foursquare is when I have identified games. Alexa and Twitter are gotten daily. Facebook is every third day. Trying to determine a schedule for ebay.

Any thoughts? Are the results for the most popular and least popular teams who you would have predicted?

1. Alexa site Australian rank data was from February 14, 2011. The Australian rank was subtracted from 35,000 in order to award high ranking teams with more points.
2. Totals are based on total checkins to the NAB Cup games played on February 11, 2011.
3. Twitter totals are from February 14, 2011 and count total followers to the official team Twitter account.
4. Facebook totals are from the official fanpage. Data was gathered on February 13, 2011.
5. Ebay data is based on http://ozziesport.com/2011/02/australian-sport-on-ebay/ that post. When team info was not available, it was searched for on February 14, 2011.

A new week, another St Kilda controversy

It appears that people are beginning to look at St Kilda’s involvement in controversy and are beginning to ask if this is bad for the club. Do these things hurt the club’s image? Will it effect their on field performance?

Most of the research I’ve done on Australian sport controversies has the take away that these things often hurt the league more than they hurt the club. The research supports the idea that by fostering a sense of national leagues and trying to get support for the games being played, rather than for individual sports, means that fans and casual observers assume that the problems are endemic to everyone. When St Kilda does something stupid, they aren’t inoculated: Social media data suggests this impacts other teams. The data supports a suggestion that the AFL and NRL should work with teams to make sure each has a strong, independent fanbase with a clear sense of its own identity.

Given all that, I’m debating writing about the latest St Kilda controversy. I’ve got to get some benchmarks on Twitter, Facebook and Alexa before I do that. A one day response probably isn’t long enough to get an idea as to how people responded. Given that this latest controversy is an extension of what went on for most December and part of January, I can’t see big shifts happening though maybe quiet shifts happened between January 1 and now. We’ll see if I get the motivation to do so.

If people are looking for for raw data and analysis regarding the impact that controversies have had on St Kilda during the past year, I have a fair amount of that. I thought I would make a post that could link to those. If people want to see any of these posts looked at or current data provided to help clarify a picture, I can do that.

  • St Kilda Saints Nude Photo Controversy (complete) – This is a four part, 15,000 word paper that looks the St Kilda nude photo controversy and how it played out for Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Dawson and the Saints. The primary focus is Twitter, Facebook and Alexa though other sites are also looked at.
  • Characteristic of AFL diggers – This posts looks at the differences of people who submitted content to digg related to various teams. St Kilda is one of the five teams looked at.
  • St. Kilda followers on Twitter – This post is from August and looks at the characteristics of St Kilda followers on Twitter. It makes a bit of an interesting contrast to who St Kilda followers are now.
  • What domains in #afl related tweets get the most RT@ ReTweets? – This post is also from August. It looks at ReTweeting patterns in the #afl hashtag community. The Saints have generally been pretty good with their Twitter usage during the past season and it isn’t surprising that their content gets mentioned and ReTweeted.
  • AFL team related Tweets by location – This is a map from July. It involves several teams in the AFL. It shows where people who Tweeted about specific teams actually tweeted from.
  • Foursquare and the AFL – This post from May gives an idea as to how many people on Foursquare checked into a few of the AFL games. St Kilda games are represented.

Beyond this selection of posts, there is a fair amount of raw, unprocessed and not necessarily fully categorized/tagged posts that reference St Kilda that can help complete the picture of the team’s pure social media/web growth and demographic shifts in the population over the past year.  When all this data is put into context, say in a packet like this one for Collingwood, it begins to paint a complete picture of the impact that all these controversies had on the club.

Twitter popularity of AFL teams by electorate

In a recent post, I talked about what I saw as the importance of the GWS Giants in developing a local fanbase.  This post is another that explores the geography of Australian Football League fandom as a function of geography.

This post is based on data gathered using the following methodology:

  1. Develop a list of  AFL related Twitter accounts and sort them by team.  Remove all AFL accounts that cannot be connected to a team.
  2. Get a lot of the followers for all those sport related Twitter accounts.   (This process takes a while.  I can only use one Twitter API code set.  This limits the number of calls I can make to something like 150 or 350 per hour.  For each of those individual calls, I can get information on one page of a account’s followers.  Each page consists of about 20 followers.  This means the whole run took about a week and it started on January 18.)
  3. Cross reference User inputted locations to actual Australian city locations .
  4. Combine all followers by sportinto one file.  Remove duplicate entries so that if, for example Person X follows  @stkildafc, and @zacd_6 Person X gets counted once for Australian Rules, not two times.
  5. Count the total number of followers by AFL team and by city.
  6. Combine the total number of followers by sport with all the cities in the electorate the city is from.  For this analysis, that data can be found at Australian city location to electorates .  This list was created using the official list of Australian polling places by electorate.  The following cities were left off the totals: Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra.  These cities were left off because they would skew the results as people that say they are living in Melbourne are actually probably living in a different suburb.  (The CBD of these centers is very tiny.  There are probably more people claiming to live in Melbourne on Twitter than actually living in Melbourne CBD proper.)  If a town is included in multiple electorates, it is counted in all those electorates: Brunswick and Brunswick East  are counted for both Melbourne and Wills.

GWS Giants on Twitter: Follower location versus Tweet location

As an American, I have an obsession with the geography of sport.  City is fundamental to my identity.  I’m from the Chicago area and my sporting loyalties are based on that.  My sport team rivals are based on geography.  The Chicago Bears are going to play the Green Bay Packers in an NFL playoff game.  This geography based rivalry is more important then winning the Super Bowl.  We cannot lose to our hated neighbors to the north! (They wear cheese on their heads for pete’s sake!)

This concept of geography of sport is why I constantly want to look at location over other Australian based sporting numbers.  I’m that ugly American sort that some Australians don’t like because I feel like if I explain to you my reasons as to why geography should matter more to Australian sport, you’ll finally get it!  (And if you don’t get it, I clearly need to explain it to you more.)

Greater Western Sydney is one of the places where I occassionally get obsessed with geography, even if I don’t post about it.  Today, I decided that I should post about it and went about getting the data to do that.  First, I got a list of all of GWS related tweets.  These tweets came from archives I had on TwapperKeeper.  Beyond the GWS specific Twitter lists, I pulled the #AFL tagged tweets and then filtered out all the tweets that did not mention GWS or Giants.  I ended up with a list of around 996 tweets or so when all the lists were combined.  I then compared the user names with city/state/location information I had in order to attempt to match the tweets with a location.  The list I have to match is pretty huge, with Twitter user information from well over 1 million different user names.  When user names were matched up, I had 621 tweets that I had a location for.  (That’s pretty good as I normally get around 10 to 40% unknowns when looking at some follower lists.)  I mapped these on the map below.

After that, I got the follower information for @GWS_Giants.  They had 1,923 followers.  I had Australian city information for 1,057 of them. (In both cases, I removed all non-Australian cities.) I added these to the map below.

The purpose of this map?  It is to determine regional interest in the team.  My supposition, as that annoying ugly American who believes regional barracking is key to a club’s success, is that for the team to succeed, most of their support has to be based in New South Wales and the ACT.  I was pleasantly surprised at the number one city for Tweet location.  That appears to signal the team has done a decent job of attracting local interest in terms of getting locals to Tweet about the team.  Then I looked at where followers came from… and the problems seemed to be a bit bigger.  The GWS Giants’s market doesn’t really factor into their top Australian cities for attracting followers: Only 6 of their top 20 cities are in New South Wales or the ACT.  Ouch.  Other states just completely over represent.  To me, this signals problems in that their current target audience isn’t as large as the less relevant audience.  (Translation: Who cares if some one in Hobart follows the team unless the Hobart follower attends matches and buys merchandise?)

Most popular Australian (and New Zealand) sport related Twitter accounts (January 21)

This list finally has over 1,000 accounts listed on it. As of this morning’s run, it actually had 1,005 accounts. It’s really damned impressive. It could still use improvement, especially when it comes to athletes and smaller, more regional athletics clubs. Any help in improving this list by telling me which accounts are missing? Fantastic. :) Recent additions to this list have been focused on netball, tennis, golf and AFL.

Derryn Hinch: Journalist traffic versus Wikipedia traffic in response to St Kilda controversy

I removed the last article I had about Hinch because I made one big number mistake: I used total year stats for Ozziesport instead of December 2010 stats.  I made this mistake repeatedly when it came to server statistics and Google Analytics data. When this was corrected for, the totals were a bit different and Hinch had double the traffic I had estimated, closer to 99,900 visitors on his server and 42,330 visitors using Google Analytics.  I apologize for this error.  I did not have my blog piece’s statistics checked like I should in my haste to put something on my blog. I’m rather embarrassed and very apologetic regarding this error.  The post below is a first draft of a chapter for my dissertation.  This time, I spent a lot of extra time to check my math and my numbers so I would not repeat that error again.

Derryn Hinch has been described as a shock jock. (Rebecca, 2010, March 22)(van den Berg, 2010, September 21) (Woolveridge, 2005, May 19) It is a label that he does not use to describe himself. (Hinch, 2010, September 21)  He has been involved in several Australian controversies that touch on politics, crime and sport.  Most of these controversies had connections with things he said on the radio. (Derryn Hinch, 2010, December 28)

During the St Kilda nude photo controversy, Hinch was one of the loudest voices in questioning the AFL and St Kilda.  He made multiple blog posts about the subject, demanding answers to questions he asked pursuant to that controversy. (Hinch, 2010, December 24) (Hinch, 2010, December 28) (Hinch, 2010, December 29) (Hinch, 2011, January 14) He has interviewed the girl who published the pictures.  He promoted his blog entries on his Twitter account at @humanheadline.   When most of the media dropped the story, Hinch continued to follow it.  A December 27, 2010 tweet by Hinch claimed his site got more than 2 million hits in December.

This purpose of this chapter is to examine two things.  The first is the veracity of Hinch’s claim regarding getting 2 million hits.   It is important to have an accurate number about the likely volume of traffic to Hinch’s website as most of the traffic between December 19 and December 27 was likely a result of the St Kilda controversy.  If Hinch’s numbers are to be believed, the controversy had a much wider audience than the St Kilda chapter in this dissertation would have you believe.  Once the likely volume of traffic to Hinch’s website has been determined, it will be compared to the traffic to related articles on Wikipedia.  The secondary purpose to help understand how traffic to “shock jock” media sites differs from latent, likely non-fan interest in the story as measured by Wikipedia article views.   “Shock jock” journalist driven media site and Wikipedia likely cater to two distinct audiences.  Understanding how these different audiences function can help provide greater understanding for how Australian sport fandom responds to major controversy and where an audience interested in these controversies turns to for information.

The first thing that needs to be done is to determine the accuracy of Derryn Hinch’s traffic data.  His claim is that he received 2 million hits in the period between December 1 and December 28.  In order to verify this data, the method he used for determining his hit totals needs to determined.  This was done using Quarkbase, a web site analysis tool that can tell you what tools a website has installed.  Hinch.Net was checked  was found to only have Apache/2.2.3 (Webserver) installed.  This contrasts with OzzieSport.com,  the author’s website, which has QuantCast (Traffic Monitoring), wordpress (Blog), Google Analytics (Traffic Monitoring), StatCounter (Traffic Monitoring), Apache/1.3.41 (Webserver), and WordPress (Traffic Monitoring) installed.  Hinch does not have popular traffic monitoring tools like Quantcast or Google Analytics installed.  He does not have software like WordPress that has its own statistics package installed.  Hinch’s lack of having Google Analytics and Quantcast installed means that he does not have industry standard traffic measuring tools installed; his method of counting traffic is not the accepted one.  Further, this shows Derryn Hinch’s method of counting traffic involves server statistics.  Server statistics count hits differently than Google Analytics and Quantcast. Server generated statistics may include all non-human access including Google bot access, pingback spam, other bots accessing the site, Baiduspider , Alexa, MSN bot, Yahoo slurp, the Internet Archive, Google Adsense access, etc.  It counts as hits all internal pages and images that the site maintainer accesses.  It counts every human accessed file as a hit: If a web page has 100 images, two .css files and two java script files, that would count as 105 hits.  A January 17 image count for Hinch’s main page reveals that there are 51 images that load off his server: Visiting his main page would mean at least 52 hits to his server.  Assuming everyone who visited only his main page was actually human, divide 2,000,000 by 52 equals 38,461 views of his home page.  Total page views of 38,461 suggests a scale of traffic different than 2,000,000.  This disconnect is part of the reason that Google Analytics, not server statistics, are an industry standard.

Another way of looking at the problems for Hinch’s server statistics is to compare them to actual totals from another site.  In this case, the other site is OzzieSport.com’s statistics as the author has access to them.  They are visible in Figure 1.

The chart in Figure 1 is the traffic as measured by Awstats, a server side method of tracking my traffic. The raw stats generated by AwStats say OzzieSport received 4,119 visits, 11,879 page views, 49,011 page views, 82,451 hits in December 2010.     In the context of Hinch’s site, Hinch received 24.25 times the amount of traffic as OzzieSport.com.  Where server statistics falls down is that it suggests much smaller amounts of traffic. The ratio for OzzieSport total hits to total visitors is 20.02. Assuming Hinch’s ratios are similar to OzzieSport’s statistics, Hinch had 99,900 visitors.  Like the recalculation based on hits, this number suggests that Hinch’s traffic is not as high as the 2 million figure would lead one to believe.

Server statistics, for reasons explained above, are generally not viewed as reliable and are not used by most industry people to measure traffic to a site.  The statistic package that is used is Google Analytics.   Sites like Twitter, MySpace, answers.com, dailymotion.com and myYearbook.com all have Google Analytics installed. (Google Analytics, 2011, January 17). As of June 2010, an estimated ” 23.48% of Alexa’s 10,000 most popular websites” have Google Analytics installed. (The Biggest Google Analytics Sites, 2010, June 3) Google Analytics works by using ” a first-party cookie and JavaScript code to collect information about visitors.” (How does Google Analytics work? – Analytics Help, 2011).  Hinch does not have Google Analytics installed.  Given that, rough estimates need to be made regarding how much traffic he may have gotten using known variables.  In this case, Google Analytics data and server data are available for OzzieSport.  OzzieSport’s Google Analytics data is found in Figure 2.

Where Ozzie had 4,119 visitors according to server data , OzzieSport had 1,744 visitors according to Google Analytics.  The server statistics recorded 2.36 times more visitors than Google Analytics.   Using these numbers as a base and assuming that Hinch had 99,900 server recorded visits, Hinch had an estimated 42,330 visitors that would have been counted by Google Analytics.  Using the same OzzieSport numbers, Hinch had an estimated 1250000 page views according on his server.  Using OzzieSport’s server to Google Analytics ratio, Hinch had 78,616 page views.

The data suggests the Hinch’s website likely had around 42,000 visitors and 79,000 page views.  Hinch’s numbers may be accurate in terms of how many hits he received to his website but are misleading when compared to the industry standard count of Google Analytics.

The second purpose of this chapter is to determine the level of Hinch’s traffic compared to Wikipedia. In order to do this, the total article views needs to be determined for the period between December 20 and December 28.  To determine this, statistics were gathered at http://stats.grok.se/ for the St Kilda Saints, Nick Riewoldt, Zac Dawson, Sam Gilbert and Nick Dal Santo articles.  This data can be found in Table 1.

When the total increased article views are added together, the result is 30,501. Derryn Hinch’s page views has been estimated at 79,000. Wikipedia’s totals are less than half of Hinch’s. This suggests that more people turned to Hinch for news about the St Kilda nude photo controversy than people turned to Wikipedia.

In conclusion, Hinch’s 2 million number is misleading in that it is derived from an industry standard number.  It was corrected for, arriving at a number of around 42,000 visitors and 79,000 page views from December 1 to December 28. During the major part of the controversy, more total people turned to Derryn Hinch and his website than people turned to Wikipedia for information when total page/article views is the measure.  When controversy happens, sport fans still turn to traditional media presented by journalists online.

Popularity of Australian sport by Federal Electorate

Methodology

This post is based on data gathered using the following methodology:

  1. Develop a list of  Australian and New Zealand related Twitter accounts and sort them by sport.
  2. Get a lot of the followers for all those sport related Twitter accounts.   (This process takes a while.  I can only use one Twitter API code set.  This limits the number of calls I can make to something like 150 or 350 per hour.  For each of those individual calls, I can get information on one page of a account’s followers.  Each page consists of about 20 followers.  This means the whole run took about a week and it started on December 18.)
  3. Cross reference User inputted locations to actual Australian city locations .
  4. Combine all followers by sportinto one file.  Remove duplicate entries so that if, for example Person X follows @AFL, @stkildafc, @zacd_6, @harry_o, Person X gets counted once for Australian Rules, not four times.
  5. Count the total number of followers by sport and by city.
  6. Combine the total number of followers by sport with all the cities in the electorate the city is from.  For this analysis, that data can be found at Australian city location to electorates .  This list was created using the official list of Australian polling places by electorate.  The following cities were left off the totals: Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra.  These cities were left off because they would skew the results as people that say they are living in Melbourne are actually probably living in a different suburb.  (The CBD of these centers is very tiny.  There are probably more people claiming to live in Melbourne on Twitter than actually living in Melbourne CBD proper.)  If a town is included in multiple electorates, it is counted in all those electorates: Brunswick and Brunswick East  are counted for both Melbourne and Wills.

The complete totals for the results above are available at Australian Twitter Sports Electorates Report – December 28.xls. The raw data is 74megs when zipped.  If you would like access to it, please leave a comment.  When there was a tie and if cricket was involved, I chose cricket.  The single blacked out electorate is one where I did not have any people from that electorate.

I suspect I have under counting some where in this data, merely because the total number of sport fans by electorate is smaller than the total number of political followers by electorate.  I just haven’t explored the raw data enough to understand why… or there is the issue that the crossover between Australian sport related accounts is huge.  It seems like something is just off with my totals and I can’t figure out what.

Derryn Hinch’s web traffic, #dickileaks and the Saints

Apologies to the Saints. They are mentioned in this post as Hinch has been talking about them and Hinch’s traffic relates to the controversy related to them. And, Google Analytics wise, I want to quickly filter my traffic related to #dickileaks and putting Saints in the URL is an easy way to do that.

Derryn Hinch has been described as a shock jock. (Rebecca, 2010, March 22)(van den Berg, 2010, September 21) (Woolveridge, 2005, May 19) It is a label that he does not use to describe himself. (Hinch, 2010, September 21)  He has been involved in several Australian controversies that touch on politics, crime and sport.  Most of these controversies had connections with things he said on the radio. (Derryn Hinch, 2010, December 28)

During the St Kilda nude photo controversy, Hinch was one of the loudest voices in questioning the AFL and St Kilda.  He made multiple blog posts about the subject, demanding answers to questions he asked pursuant to that controversy. (Hinch, 2010, December 24) (Hinch, 2010, December 28) (Hinch, 2010, December 29) (Hinch, 2011, January 14) He has interviewed the girl who published the pictures.  He promoted his blog entries on his Twitter account at @humanheadline.   When most of the media dropped the story, Hinch continued to follow it.  A December 27, 2010 tweet by Hinch claimed his site got more than 2 million hits in December.

This purpose of this chapter is to examine two things.  The first is the veracity of Hinch’s claim regarding getting 2 million hits.   It is important to have an accurate number about the likely volume of traffic to Hinch’s website as most of the traffic between December 19 and December 27 was likely a result of the St Kilda controversy.  If Hinch’s numbers are to be believed, the controversy had a much wider audience than the St Kilda chapter in this dissertation would have you believe.  Once the likely volume of traffic to Hinch’s website has been determined, it will be compared to the traffic to related articles on Wikipedia.  The secondary purpose to help understand how traffic to “shock jock” media sites differs from latent, likely non-fan interest in the story as measured by Wikipedia article views.   “Shock jock” driven media site and Wikipedia likely cater to two distinct audiences.  Understanding how these different audiences function can help provide greater understanding for how Australian sport fandom responds to major controversy and where an audience interested in these controversies turns to for information.

The first thing that needs to be done is to determine the accuracy of Derryn Hinch’s traffic data.  His claim is that he received 2 million hits in the period between December 1 and December 28.  In order to verify this data, the method he used for determining his hit totals needs to determined.  This was done using Quarkbase, a web site analysis tool that can tell you what tools a website has installed.  Hinch.Net was checked  was found to only have Apache/2.2.3 (Webserver) installed.  This contrasts with OzzieSport.com,  the author’s website, which has QuantCast (Traffic Monitoring), wordpress (Blog), Google Analytics (Traffic Monitoring), StatCounter (Traffic Monitoring), Apache/1.3.41 (Webserver), and WordPress (Traffic Monitoring) installed.  Hinch does not have popular traffic monitoring tools like Quantcast or Google Analytics installed.  He does not have software like WordPress that has its own statistics package installed.  Hinch’s lack of having Google Analytics and Quantcast installed means that he does not have industry standard traffic measuring tools installed; his method of counting traffic is not the accepted one.  Further, this shows Derryn Hinch’s method of counting traffic involves server statistics.  Server statistics count hits differently than Google Analytics and Quantcast. Server generated statistics may include all non-human access including Google bot access, pingback spam, other bots accessing the site, Baiduspider , Alexa, MSN bot, Yahoo slurp, the Internet Archive, Google Adsense access, etc.  It counts as hits all internal pages and images that the site maintainer accesses.  It counts every human accessed file as a hit: If a web page has 100 images, two .css files and two java script files, that would count as 105 hits.  A January 17 image count for Hinch’s main page reveals that there are 51 images that load off his server: Visiting his main page would mean at least 52 hits to his server.  Assuming everyone who visited only his main page was actually human, divide 2,000,000 by 52 equals 38,461 views of his home page.  Total page views of 38,461 suggests a scale of traffic different than 2,000,000.  This disconnect is part of the reason that Google Analytics, not server statistics, are an industry standard.

Another way of looking at the problems for Hinch’s server statistics is to compare them to actual totals from another site.  In this case, the other site is OzzieSport.com’s statistics as the author has access to them.  They are visible in Figure 1.

The chart in Figure 1 is the traffic as measured by Awstats, a server side method of tracking my traffic. The raw stats generated by AwStats say OzzieSport received 4,119 visits, 11,879 page views, 49,011 page views, 82,451 hits in December 2010.     In the context of Hinch’s site, Hinch received 24.25 times the amount of traffic as OzzieSport.com.  Where server statistics falls down is that it suggests much smaller amounts of traffic. The ratio for OzzieSport total hits to total visitors is 20.02. Assuming Hinch’s ratios are similar to OzzieSport’s statistics, Hinch had 99,900 visitors.  Like the recalculation based on hits, this number suggests that Hinch’s traffic is not as high as the 2 million figure would lead one to believe.

Server statistics, for reasons explained above, are generally not viewed as reliable and are not used by most industry people to measure traffic to a site.  The statistic package that is used is Google Analytics.   Sites like Twitter, MySpace, answers.com, dailymotion.com and myYearbook.com all have Google Analytics installed. (Google Analytics, 2011, January 17). As of June 2010, an estimated ” 23.48% of Alexa’s 10,000 most popular websites” have Google Analytics installed. (The Biggest Google Analytics Sites, 2010, June 3) Google Analytics works by using ” a first-party cookie and JavaScript code to collect information about visitors.” (How does Google Analytics work? – Analytics Help, 2011).  Hinch does not have Google Analytics installed.  Given that, rough estimates need to be made regarding how much traffic he may have gotten using known variables.  In this case, Google Analytics data and server data are available for OzzieSport.  OzzieSport’s Google Analytics data is found in Figure 2.

Where Ozzie had 4,119 visitors according to server data , OzzieSport had 1,744 visitors according to Google Analytics.  The server statistics recorded 2.36 times more visitors than Google Analytics.   Using these numbers as a base and assuming that Hinch had 99,900 server recorded visits, Hinch had an estimated 42,330 visitors that would have been counted by Google Analytics.  Using the same OzzieSport numbers, Hinch had an estimated 1250000 page views according on his server.  Using OzzieSport’s server to Google Analytics ratio, Hinch had 78,616 page views.
